The truck problem is the result of the decisions made by The Village of Elwood. Compass will take trucks off local roads, and give lost trucks a safe place to turm around. LP RALRONO Myth: No new development has taken place near the Cemetery. Truth: Elwood approved a second large warehouse immediately next to the Cemetery entrance, which was completed in 2019. As a result of poor planning and design, these buildings are very visible from the Cemetery. Location of Truck Turnaround and Driver Information Facility New Park Entrance 2.3 miles Northeast of Cemetery Entrance Bridge over Rt. 53 New Road Curving Away from Cemetery BNSF INTERMODAL ABRAHAM LINCOLN NATIONAL CEMETERY Cemetery Entrance Compass will fund a bridge located more than a quarter mile from the northeast corner of the Cemetery, which is significantly further than the existing intermodal rail yard and industrial buildings built next door to it. Based on community feedback, Compass resolved to address the current problem of trucks encroaching on Cemetery grounds. Include a staffed truck turnaround at Mississippi Road and Route 53, more than a half mile north of the Cemetery, giving drivers the opportunity to change directions before reaching the Cemetery. Include improved street signage in multiple languages to help drivers safely reach their destinations to any business park, not just Compass.
